oregon fun, stopperan style

my brother and his family (mimi, julia and megan) visited for a week over the fourth of july to celebrate our country's independence, or whatever. we had some big fun. visiting waterfalls, feeding ducks, touring orchards and wineries and exploring the coast. bob and mimi were champs and remained calm and cool during a good portion of our mini van adventure.

megan playing in the sand at rowena, columbia river gorge. the girls loved playing on the windsurfing equipment, in the water and out.

the mosier cherries were in season and julia totally dug them

julia and megan found lots of sand dollars and stinky crab shells

we watched the 4th of july fireworks for hours from the roof of the beach house

honeys and honey buckets, both kinda stinky

we went to a beavers game. i think we won, or maybe we left early.

joren entertains the kids. he signs up for the newspaper. fun!
mimi's drunk, i think.

mt. hood

our pal sarah came in town for a long weekend and the first activity on the (joren's) agenda was to wake up at midnight, drive to hood and start climbing at 2 am. it was hard, but it was fun and the gorgeous sunrise was worth the effort of climbing up scree and ice fields.

we didn't summit, but still got to sled down a good part of the mountain. i have a few snow raspberries on my back and a handful of pictures to remember the fun. i also used crampons (pointy metal ice shoes) for the first time.

here, sarah is looking gorgeous and i look more like a moutain turd. sarah was a great sport and let me do the majority of complaining. bless her heart.
