all i want for christmas is a fresh, new cat

we picked up this rascal on winery day. coconut seems to like the new little guy and shows it by pooping on the carpet. maybe we took the wrong cat back.

this is our non-denominational holiday tree. and the kitten. he might be muslim, but it's hard to tell at this point. if you look closely, you can see some sand dollars on the tree. the sand that falls out of them makes the living room perfect for some traditional holiday sand volleyball.

i'm thankful for the alcohol

we spent the tail end of the holiday weekend going to wineries in the countryside. not the france one, the oregon one. this is a rare photo of us, not taken with joren's extended ape-like arm. it was taken by our friend julie, who i sometimes refer to as "the furniture girl". she's nice, and makes really fabulous furniture. if i had a photo of her, i'd put it here. like i said she's nice, but not in the way that i don't means she's also not cute, because she is.

these are the barrels they put you in if you act like you don't know what a "bouquet" is. i, sadly, am in the barrel.
the best thing about the oregon countryside is the lack of french people, who i like, but don't understand. and the free kittens...

best used cats ever?

as it turns out, no. we had to take Pepper back.
and it made me ponder the age old question "wouldn't you like to be a Pepper, too?" the answer would have be no. unless you like living at the pound.

pole fighting: part one

we started thanksgiving with a big snow hike. notice the poles. they're for the pole fighting. a lesser-known but integral part of snow hiking.

we were lucky and had plenty of sun, snow and great views of mount hood. i took my goggles to protect my mole eyes during the pole fighting.

something smells fowl

well, we caught our first bird in the bird catcher. lucky for us it was the hairless variety.

i hate you, face book, and your stupid ass face

after not understanding what it is, but trying to sign up, i got this message... "You don't have any confirmed friends yet." awesome. tell me something i don't know. i'm new to the area. i hate you, facebook.

our new bird catcher

none so far, but i've got my crockpot all fired up and ready to go.

early halloween idea

like i said, it was just an idea. "scary lemonhead" i guess is what it was.
scary maybe if you're allergic to lemons.

ar-kansas

we went to a wedding recently in arkansas at the clinton library.
it's where he's buried.

about an hour into the drive, i realized i'd forgotten my dress.
who loves quiet, mad roadtrips?! well, then, you should've been there.

this is a railroad bridge by the library that clinton was a hobo on.

this is me. and joren. you can see clinton's hobo bridge in the background.

blast...

or super blast?
I saw this at a rest stop as we were driving down to arkansas for a wedding. I can't think of a better way to pass the time on a road trip.

cinco de megan

little megan stopperan turned 5 recently. you can tell by the candle, or the rings if you cut her in half.

the best used cats EVER

well, we got two used cats. no names yet, both girls. why two? we got a discount. plus we're suckers for used cats.

this one we call basement kitty, but she's been coming upstairs more today.

there was a poo on the carpet this morning. my money's on joren.

this is couch kitty, although basement kitty sits on the couch a lot, too.

see? used cats are good. and not just for stew.

cyclocross my heart

cyclocross bikes are kind of a cross between mountain bikes and road bikes. so in other words, a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll. the races are held in a velodrome, which is not at all like a palendrome.

there's even a category for unicycles. unicycles are a cross between bicycles and one wheel.

the course consists of lots of turns, twists, carring your bike up hills, over barriers. and there's lots of cow bell ringing, which i always love. even if there's no cows.

our neighbor's stupid kittens

they sort of make you want to throw up, don't they? the grey one has extra toes, just like my brother.

it it still considered Fall if it's only 22 degrees?

we went backpacking a few weekends ago in the wallowas (eastern oregon). it was a gorgeous drive out and our first morning on the trail was a balmy 22 degrees.

camera timer wizardry

we stayed in our sleeping bags once we set up camp. joren even made dinner. chicken cordon bleu.

we did have a very nice tent view, however

this is me leaving the wilderness. leaving only footprints. taking only memories, and a beaver i trapped.

it's here! it's here! it's finally here!

wow. it's like 37 is the new 55. retirement is awe-some.

my dinner with andre, if my mom's name was andre

this is my brother bob and my nieces. bob recently told the girls that 'the grass was closed for the summer'. uh huh. big fun at the stopperans' playing on the hot asphalt driveway.

the tide is high, and so is tina

we found some shells, sand fleas and a little love, but no dead seals.
also we ate some clam chowder later that day.

asleep

I am trying to break your heart

wilco visited portland, and sarah and i visited wilco.

sky blue sky

this is wilco. yes, they're really that blurry.

this reminded me of our commitment ceremony
